THE PAINTER

A 12-minute horror short that stands out…

  • A woman in a white nightgown standing against a worn wooden wall, covering her mouth with her hand, with an anxious expression.

It starts with a great story

After the untimely death of her mother, Casey Miller inherits a painting of a lone cabin in a secluded forest. Casey becomes increasingly distressed as she begins to notice subtle changes appearing in the painting–unsure if they’re real or creations of her mind– while a sinister presence closes in on her.

Birdie and Paul workshopped the story for months, effort that paid off with a clever horror story.

  • A young woman with long dark hair, wearing a cap and black t-shirt, standing next to a person in a black hooded cloak with a hood that covers most of their face, in a dimly lit room with blue and red lighting.

It continues with great production values

With a crew of more than 20, including an incredible DP, three great actors and Birdie’s design of The Shadow played by her brother Quint, the two-day shoot produced high quality content for the film. Excellent lighting, an incredible location in Brooklyn, IronGlass MKII lenses and insightful direction by Birdie gives the film a beautifully haunting look.

  • Two people sitting in front of a video editing setup, with monitors displaying editing timelines and a screen showing a skull sculpture.

And finally an incredible Post Production team

We made every effort to complete the film using the most professional post production techniques and facilities. The orchestral genre score for the film was composed by Paul and mixed by veteran film score mixer Dennis Sands. The film was colorized by industry leading colorist John Crowley and the sound effects were designed by James David Redding III and mixed in 5.1 at PostWorks New York. The result is a film that looks and sounds incredible.
